Private Funds Market Trends Report
June 3, 2021
Welcome to the latest in a series of publications[1] in which we report to our extensive range of hedge, direct lending, credit, real estate and private equity manager clients our observations regarding market trends affecting private funds.
While our 2020 reports naturally focused upon trends arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, this report is written against a brighter backdrop. As you heard if you attended our (virtual) Private Investment Funds Seminar in January,[2] many of our clients weathered the storms of 2020 successfully, ending the year with positive returns and asset flows. Although the first quarter of 2021 again saw markets affected by social, economic and political uncertainty, with GameStop, Archegos and other public market developments causing pain for some, clients continue to pursue their investment programs and fundraising efforts with great vigor, and investors continue to see alternatives as a source of strong, risk-adjusted returns.
In this report, we again provide an updated view of market trends affecting private funds, based on our most recent experience advising clients across the private funds spectrum and our decades of experience serving the alternative investment management industry.
