In a recent Forbes article by Robert Sher, Schulte Roth & Zabel Chief Information Officer Andrea Markstrom discussed the evolving role of a CIO.
Andrea discussed the need for the CIO role to focus on strategy, collaboration and diving into a business-led model rather than an IT silo. Doing so can have an incredible impact, she explained, with results including:
- Innovative approaches that streamline work more efficiently
- New lines of business that drive revenue and customer retention
- A redefined IT organization that is a true value-added business partner
She also explained, “[w]e need to be part of the discussion that our lawyers are having with their clients. We need to be involved in the discussions that drive the firm’s strategy, and be an inclusive player at the table making decisions.”
