Schulte Speaker Series, Jewish Affinity Group and First Generation Professionals Group Guest Speaker Jordan Salama shares insights on lineage, legacy and storytelling
May 24, 2024
In celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month and as part of the Schulte Speaker Series, the Jewish Affinity Group and the First Generation Professionals Group were honored to host writer/journalist Jordan Salama for an inspiring session about lineage, legacy and storytelling.
During a Q&A session moderated by partner Andi Mandell, Jordan provided insights into his book "Stranger in the Desert," an intergenerational family story that chronicles a search across Argentina in search of traces of his great-grandfather, a traveling salesman in the Andes mountains. He also delved into the multicultural identities resulting from the forced itinerancy of Jewish families and communities across generations
Jordan explained how to capture familial stories through a journalistic lens. He emphasized that by comprehending and documenting the languages used within your family, as well as understanding your lineage and legacy, you are actively contributing to the growth of your familial and cultural wealth. By sharing these stories with others, we foster a sense of harmony and mutual comprehension, strengthening our connections as individuals and communities.
The event served as a meaningful tribute to Jewish American Heritage Month and engendered an appreciation for the power of storytelling in preserving our history for future generations.
