William D. Zabel ’58 Professorship of Human Rights established by Trustees of Princeton University
December 28, 2023
The JPB Foundation has established the William D. Zabel ’58 Professorship of Human Rights at Princeton University, which is designed to attract and retain world-class faculty pursuing academic work related to social justice.
The Professorship recognizes and honors Schulte Roth & Zabel founding partner Bill Zabel’s remarkable 62-year career and commitment to human and civil rights, including representing the ACLU in its victory in Loving v. Virginia, making interracial marriage legal. “I’m most proud of Loving v. Virginia because that goes in the history books,” Bill stated. “Interracial marriage was still a crime in 19 states when we brought that case.”
In addition to the Harvard University Professorship in Human Rights that he personally endowed, the William D. Zabel ’58 Princeton University Professorship of Human Rights further exemplifies his legacy as a lifelong advocate for social justice.
